Project management and technical and financial oversight for photovoltaic systems

In the photovoltaic sector, the value of a plant lies almost entirely in the numbers that someone must verify: how much it actually produces, for how many years, under what contracts, and with what risks. It is a market focused on large-scale plants and consolidated through acquisitions, while the new FER X regime—with 20-year contracts for difference—is reshaping the profitability of projects. Onirico Suisse supports investors, developers, and operators in due diligence prior to an acquisition, as well as during development, construction oversight, and operations. Independent of suppliers, we work on behalf of those who own or acquire the asset.

Our Solar Power Services

We offer comprehensive support for photovoltaic systems, overseeing the installation before, during, and after the project.

Technical Due Diligence

Before an acquisition or financing transaction, we assess what is being purchased: actual production capacity, the condition of the facility, permits, contracts, and risks—all of which are factored into the price and terms. Learn more on the due diligence page.

Development and Ready-to-Build

We guide a greenfield project through the process until it reaches a solid, financeable approval package, focusing on the sale value as well as the connection date.

Construction Site Supervision

We monitor the construction site on behalf of the client, ensuring that the completed system matches the approved and designed system.

Operational Monitoring and Diagnostics

Let’s analyze an operational plant and look for the causes of underperformance where they usually lie: soiling, module degradation, inverter downtime, and O&M that doesn’t meet the agreed-upon standards.

Revamping and Repowering

We evaluate the actual benefits of a retrofit before recommending it, because replacing components doesn't always solve the problem. Learn more on the revamping page.

Inspection and Survey

When field data is needed, we arrange for a thermographic inspection of the modules and a topographic survey of the site, and we incorporate the results into our assessment.

What We Check

A system’s performance, legitimacy, and value depend on a few measurable factors. These are the ones we focus our verification on, because that is where the discrepancies between what is claimed and what is actually the case lie.

Expected Production Capacity

How much energy will the plant actually produce? We’re working with the P50 and P90 scenarios—that is, the probable and conservative production estimates—because it’s the difference between the two that a buyer needs to understand. It’s the figure most often overestimated in a transaction.

Authorizations

The validity of the permits and the consistency between what was authorized and what was actually built, on which the asset’s legitimacy and financial viability depend.

O&M and Sales Contracts

Protections, counterparties, and the term of energy management and sales contracts. A PPA with a weak counterparty or an O&M agreement that offers little protection reduces the actual value, even with the same technical specifications.

Connection and curtailment

The limitations of the grid and the risk that part of the generation will be curtailed—a critical issue that grows as the number of connected facilities increases.

System Status

The actual condition of modules, inverters, structures, and systems, verified on-site and not just based on documentation.

Price Risk

Market exposure when revenues depend on energy prices or the strength of a long-term contract, whether or not it is part of the incentive program.

How We Work

We assess performance, permits, contracts, and risks; we evaluate them in relation to the value of the project; and, when a facility is to be developed or managed, we oversee its construction and operation on behalf of the client. We do not sell plants or components, so our assessment is not influenced by whoever is proposing the project. We understand the technology and the market, and we provide a useful overview for decision-makers. The same team oversees all phases, from the initial assessment to monitoring operations.

Tell us what stage the project is at: an acquisition, a development, a facility that is already in operation, or one that needs to be modernized. We will respond with an initial technical and economic assessment—provided on a confidential basis—that outlines the main risks and their impact on value.
